// PUNK TYPOGRAPHY: WHEN LETTERS REFUSE TO BEHAVE
Typography has rules. Baseline grids, kerning standards, hierarchy systems, legibility requirements. We break them all. When letters refuse to behave, when words fight back against readers, that’s when type becomes punk.
Against Legibility
Good typography is supposed to be invisible - serving the message without calling attention to itself. Punk typography does the opposite. It screams, it fights, it makes reading work.
Why should text be easy? Why should communication be frictionless? Friction creates meaning. Difficulty demands attention.
The Philosophy of Ugly
Punk typography embraces ugly. Not accidentally ugly - intentionally, purposefully, defiantly ugly.
“Beautiful typography serves power. Ugly typography serves truth.”
When every brand uses the same clean, minimal fonts, ugliness becomes the most radical choice.
